Abstract of Project Funded for FY 1999
| Self-esteem and Reference Orientation of Deaf and Hard of Hearing
College Students
Irmgard Friedburg, Psychology This study aims to investigate the relationship of self-esteem and reference orientation of deaf and hard-of-hearing college students by means of self-report measurements. Another purpose of the study is to do a concurrent validation of two identification measurements: Glickman’s Deaf Identity Development Scale (DIDS, 1993) and Weinberg and Sterritt’s Deaf Identity Scale (1986). Self-esteem will be assessed by a modification of the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (Gibson, 1983) for the deaf population. Scores on two TSCS subscales tapping social desirability will be combined to one score for controlling social desirability. |
