Development of the Social Self-Efficacy Scale for Use with Deaf College Students Candice Tate and Virginia
Gutman, Psychology
This proposal seeks to cover the cost of test materials used to investigate the use and validity of the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Social Skills (SEQSS) with students who are deaf and hard of hearing. The SEQSS is a scale designed to measure very specific beliefs related to social skills however, it lacks sufficient data regarding the deaf and hard of hearing population. This researcher to better meet the needs of this population has revised the SEQSS. The proposed study seeks to (1) obtain revised SEQSS score profiles on 30 Gallaudet undergraduate students; (2) obtain score profiles of 30 hearing students from various Universities in the Washington DC area on both the original SEQSS and the revised SEQSS; (3) investigate the construct validity of the revised SEQSS against the Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scale (I-E) and the Social Subscale of the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale: Revised Edition (TSCS: 2, SOC) as administered to deaf and hard of hearing subjects, (4) measure reliability of the revised SEQSS through a second administration to the deaf and hard of hearing subjects. The results of this study
will give future researchers a knowledge base to work from in research
regarding various areas, including but not limited to depression, self-esteem,
and successful goal achievement.
