| Bilingual Deaf Adults' Perceptions of the Process of Becoming Successful Readers and Writers
Lillian Tompkins, Education How do American Deaf bilingual learners perceive and utilize the relationship between their dual languages? The proposed study will provide an examination of the phenomenon of prolonged bilingualism in ASL and English from the perspective of 10 college-age Deaf offspring of Deaf parents, to address the following research questions: 1) What can we learn about the phenomenon of prolonged bilingualism from adult Deaf offspring of deaf parents? 2) What are the recalled strategies, experiences, and influences that Deaf prolonged bilingual individuals identify as contributing to achievement in reading and writing?? |
