National Task Force on Equity in Testing Deaf Individuals

Activities and Members

Activities of the Task Force

Assist State Departments of Certification to develop fair/equitable policies on professional testing.

Advise in individual situations in which test bias has been a factor in certification of deaf professionals. A Testing Information Packet is available.

Collect information on policies related to mandated testing of professionals. Credential Requirements and related information are available for the following professions:
  • Recreation
  • Rehabilitation Counseling
  • Social Work
  • Veterinary Medicine

Provide information to college and university admissions offices to promote understanding of reasons behind possible discrepancies between standardized admissions test scores and other aspects of applicants' academic or professional profiles to facilitate equitable admissions decisions. A Testing Information Packet is available.

Advocate for policy statements such as the Resolution in Support of Test Equity for Deaf Teachers.

Collect and disseminate the names of appropriate contact persons in states, universities, and agencies within a network of professionals, such as are included at Credential Requirements.

Advise professional preparation programs on appropriate assessment preparation for deaf candidates for certification. A Testing Information Packet is available.

Work with test development agencies in determining appropriate Test Accommodations for deaf candidates.

Provide test preparation advice and strategies for deaf test takers, such as Test Preparation Strategies for Deaf Test Takers.

Disseminate position statements such as Position on Testing Deaf Teachers.
