Test Description & Related Materials
The 10th Edition of the Stanford Achievement Test has been receiving
positive reviews from students for its friendly new look in its format
and use of color. Now that the norming of the 10th Edition with deaf
and hard of hearing students has been completed, we are preparing (and
will soon provide here) a list of tests and related materials
available from the Gallaudet Research Institute and from the
publisher, Harcourt Assessment. To see the publisher's catalog
immediately, please contact the publisher at 800-211-8378 or see www.HarcourtAssessment.com.

Norms for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
During Fall Semester 2003 and Spring Semester 2004 (both semesters are
in the 2003-2004 school year), the Gallaudet Research Institute
collected test responses from programs serving students who are deaf
or hard of hearing. With the 10th Edition of the Stanford, we have
developed two screening tests (reading and mathematics) for each of
the test levels Primary 1 (grade 1.5 - 2.5) through Advanced 2 (grade
8.5 - 9.9). We collected test responses from levels Primary 1 through
TASK 3 (grade 11.0- 13.0). With previous editions (6th Edition
through 9th Edition) of the Stanford, we have not used the TASK 1
(grade 9.0-9.9), TASK 2 (grade 10.0-10.0), and TASK 3 (grade
11.0-13.0) in the norming.
Data collection was completed in Spring Semester 2004, and was
followed by data analysis at the Gallaudet Research Institute to
calculate the age-based norms. These data were provided to the test
scoring programs, so that score reports could include age-based norm
scores for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Score reports now include the deaf and hard of hearing percentiles
by age.
Test Accommodations & Screening Procedures
A major change with the 10th Edition of the Stanford Achievement Test
is that the Stanford 10 is untimed; there is no need to consider
requests for extra time in testing.
As mentioned above, the screening procedures for the 10th Edition
involve separate screening tests for reading and mathematics subtests.
It is possible to give more than one test level to a student, with
some subtests taken at one level and other subtests at a different
test level.
